About the Treatment Access and Engagement Lab (TEAL)

Our lab is dedicated to increasing patient and provider access to and engagement in evidence-based interventions for suicide and substance use, two highly stigmatized conditions with effective, but underutilized treatments. To accomplish this goal, we study and leverage financial and social incentives, behavioral economic strategies, community-based educational efforts, and health-related policies. We use mixed-methods research, including surveys, qualitative interviews, community advisory boards, electronic medical record analysis, and experience sampling studies. Our research is informed by the principles of community-based participatory research and seeks to understand, amplify, and make actionable the concerns and goals of patients, providers, and community members.
